The Process of Applying in Business Schools

Applying in a business school is a very extensive process. Many schools are very selective when it comes to which applicants to accept, which they determine through a variety of factors. Here are some considerations you need to know in applying for the best business schools.

Timing is everything - Apply to your school of choice as soon as possible, as most of them have two to three application deadlines. You increase your chances of being accepted if you apply during the first round because there are a lot of empty slots available. The later you apply, the lesser yoru chances.

A low GPA is not the end of it - Many applicants are eager to get a high GPA because the score they receive will be stuck with them forever. Top business schools accept students with a median GPA of about 3.5. If your GPA is lower than that, it is not the end of the world. It only means the rest of your application such as examinations, essays, and interviews should make up for it.

Study hard for GMAT - The Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized exam to assess how well you are likely to perform in an MBA program. The examination measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills. The total scores range from 200 to 800, while the median score for applicants who are admitted into top business schools is 700.

Pack your application with recommendation letters - Just like in college admissions and job employment, a recommendation letter increases your chances of being admitted in a top business school. Many colleges prefer that applicants have at least two letters of recommendation. These letters should be written by someone who knows you very well, especially if that person is of respectable stature.

Make a great essay - A business school applicant would have to write an average of seven application essays ranging between 2,000 and 4,000 words. These essays eanother tool to convince schools that you are a perfect choice to become their student. However, writing an application essay is not easy, so you need to make your piece a worthy read.

Prepare for an interview - Some business schools require all applicants to be interviewed, while some only invite short-listed applicants. Just like preparing for the GMAT, you need to prepare for a smooth application interview, since a good one will guarantee your acceptance.
